Pakistani food in Niagara Falls — lamb shawarma, parathas and more from our truck

Not a restaurant. A food truck on Rainbow Blvd with real Pakistani street food: lamb off the spit, parathas off the griddle.

Pakistani food has a reputation problem in North America — not because the cuisine is lacking, but because most people have only encountered a watered-down version of it inside a restaurant that is trying to appeal to the widest possible audience. At Lahori Shawarma, our tagline is "Pakistan Street Food" and we mean it literally. We are a food truck parked at 360 Rainbow Blvd in Niagara Falls, NY, and everything we serve is rooted in the street food traditions of Lahore and the broader Pakistani culinary world. If you have never had real Pakistani food in Niagara Falls, this is where to start.

What Pakistani street food actually means

Pakistani cuisine is built around a few foundational principles: bold spice layering, quality protein cooked over high heat or slow fire, and bread that is made to order. The spice profiles are not about raw heat — they are about depth. Cumin, coriander, cardamom, turmeric, and a rotating cast of regional spices combine to create flavour that is complex without being punishing. Mild, medium, and bold are all possible within the same menu, which is part of what makes the cuisine so widely loved.

Street food specifically strips away the formality. There is no twelve-course tasting menu. There is a cook, a heat source, a handful of essential ingredients, and a line of people who know exactly what they are coming for. That is the tradition Lahori Shawarma carries forward.

Lamb vs. chicken: understanding the distinction

In Pakistani street food culture, lamb and chicken occupy different roles. Chicken is the everyday protein — accessible, quick to cook, adaptable. Lamb is the occasion protein — richer, more intensely flavoured, and in many preparations the mark of a serious cook. Both appear throughout the menu.

Our Lamb Shawarma ($17.99) is the strongest expression of what the truck can do. Lamb shoulder is marinated in a spiced blend and slow-roasted on the spit. The fat renders slowly, the outside chars slightly, and each carved portion delivers layers of flavour that chicken cannot replicate. If you have only ever had chicken shawarma, the lamb version is a genuine revelation. Chicken Shawarma ($15.99) and Chicken Cheese Shawarma ($16.49) are excellent in their own right — the cheese version in particular has a cult following — but the lamb is the one that earns the strongest reactions.

What a paratha is — and why it matters

If shawarma is familiar to most visitors, parathas may not be. A paratha is a whole-wheat flatbread that is layered during preparation — the dough is folded over itself repeatedly with fat worked between the layers, then cooked on a hot griddle until the outside is golden and slightly crisp while the inside stays soft and pull-apart tender. The result is nothing like naan, which is baked in a tandoor oven and has a lighter, airier texture.

Naan at Lahori Shawarma comes in plain ($4.99), butter ($4.99), and garlic ($5.99) versions — all baked and excellent as accompaniments to a rice bowl. Parathas are a different experience entirely. Our stuffed parathas come filled with paneer (fresh cheese), mixed vegetables, aloo (spiced potato), gobi (cauliflower), or egg (anda) — all at $11.99. A plain paratha is $8.99. Paneer paratha and Aloo paratha are the two most popular. If you have never had a freshly made stuffed paratha, it will change your understanding of what bread can be.

Rice bowls: what Pakistani rice means

Western expectations of rice as a bland filler side dish do not apply here. Pakistani rice preparations are seasoned, spiced, and built to carry the protein placed on top of them. Our rice bowls — Chicken Over Rice ($15.99), Lamb Over Rice ($17.99), Mix Over Rice ($16.99), Butter Chicken Rice ($17.99), Chicken Curry Rice ($17.99), and Daal Over Rice ($15.99) — all include a drink and are priced as complete meals because they are complete meals.

The Butter Chicken Rice is our signature and the most popular item across all categories. The tomato-cream sauce has a richness and a mild heat that represents the more accessible end of the Pakistani flavour spectrum, making it an ideal starting point for anyone new to the cuisine.
